
Prof. Olivier Verscheure, Executive Director, Swiss Data Science Center
In addition to his titular professor role at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Olivier Verscheure directs and founded the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC), a joint EPFL–ETH Zurich venture with about 130 data science, machine learning and AI experts. The SDSC aims to advance science and innovation through excellence in data science and AI, benefiting academia, industry, and the public sector. Olivier also co-leads an executive education program run jointly by EPFL and HEC Lausanne, pairing EPFL’s technical depth in data science with HEC’s business expertise.
In governance roles, Olivier serves on the board of trustees of SWITCH, a key organization for Switzerland’s education and research community. From 2018 to 2025, he also sat on the Board of Directors of Lonza, a global leader in life sciences, serving the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and specialty healthcare industries.
Prior to joining EPFL in 2016, Olivier began his career at IBM Research after earning his Ph.D. in computer science from EPFL. He held several research and leadership roles at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in New York, then co-founded and co-led the IBM Research Center in Dublin, Ireland.
